What to eat to spark the flames for the Valentine’s Day

For centuries, people have sought out aphrodisiac foods to help increase fertility and sexual desire. Aphrodisiacs are named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, and it would appear that a lot of our common aphrodisiacs and associations of love stem from that ancient time.
Some foods do contain nutrients that are tied to either a relaxed state of mind or physical health that translates into enhanced romantic performance. And others have a romantic enough back story to qualify as aphrodisiacs, even if the science doesn’t back it up.

Here are certain foods with aphrodisiac properties, either because of what they contain or because of the myths around them.

1. Oysters

Oysters have long been considered the food of love. The famous lover, Casanova, ate dozens of oysters a day, seducing a vestal virgin by sliding an oyster from his lips to hers. Oysters are a good source of zinc, a mineral needed for sperm and testosterone production.

2. Chocolate

Pure dark chocolate has a centuries old reputation as an aphrodisiac. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), which stimulates the same hormone your body releases during sex. It also sparks dopamine production in the brain. It doesn’t take much. Try a square or two of low-sugar, vegan dark chocolate.

3. Pomegranates

Known as the love apple, here’s another suggestive fruit that packs a punch. It’s high in anti-oxidants, so it boosts blood flow, and increases genital sensitivity. It also boosts testosterone, and increases sex drive in both men and women.

4. Watermelon

Watermelon has high levels of lycopene, which has a Viagra-like effect on the body, as it relaxes blood vessels and improves circulation.

5. Asparagus

Asparagus is loaded with Vitamin E, considered one of the sex hormone stimulants, as well as potassium, needed for healthy hormone production.
6. Red wine

In moderation, red wine increases blood flow, relaxes you, and lowers inhibitions. Have a few ounces of red wine, but don’t overdo it.

We would like to suggest you the recipe of Chocolate sorbet that will be just perfect for your Valentine’s Day!

Ingredients

• 200g caster sugar
• 50g cocoa
• 50g dark chocolate, finely chopped
• 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

1. Tip the sugar into a bowl, sift in the cocoa and stir. Bring 600ml water to the boil in a medium saucepan. Whisk in the sugar and cocoa and return to a gentle simmer. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes, whisking occasionally. Remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate and vanilla until the chocolate has melted.

2. Cool the mixture, then put in the fridge for several hrs or overnight until well chilled. Make the sorbet in an ice-cream machine or pour into a rigid plastic container, preferably bowl shaped, and freeze until frozen 3cm from the edges. Whisk to break down the ice crystals, then freeze again for 1 hr more. Whisk and freeze again one more time, then leave until completely frozen.

3. Before serving, transfer to the fridge for 30 mins to make scooping easier.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
